1789 Courvoisier on sale in Harrods for £95,000

A 233-year-old Courvoisier cognac, discovered in a Dutch Collection is on sale for £95,000 at Harrods in London

The famous London department store, is showcasing the Courvoisier & Curlier cognac 1789.

The 233-year-old cognac on display in the Harrods wine shop's tasting room, was recently recognised as the earliest known vintage of the major French cognac brand. It was discovered in among the World’s Largest Old Liquors Collection of Dutch collector, owned by Dutch collector, Bay van der Bunt.

Harrods and Courvoisier have issued an invitation to cognac lovers worldwide to join them in celebrating the discovery of this bottle.

The Harrods’ tasting room will feature L'Atelier de Courvoisier, showing the art of the cognac making process. L'Atelier is open to the public during the hours of 12pm-4pm December 5, 6 and 8th. Bart Laming, head of the Old Liquors Collection, says: "Evenings are reserved for invited guests who are treated to an exclusive and bespoke experience."

Guests will be greeted with a St Helena – a cocktail designed made by Nathan Merriman of London's 'The Club at The Ivy'. During cocktails, Courvoisier’s brand ambassador, Rebecca Asseline, will talk about the brand. Courvoisier XO will be poured directly from a barrel taken from the cellars of Château Courvoisier in Jarnac.

A food pairing menu compliments the key aromas found within this blend, including brill-shasimi marinated in vanilla and mint, venison loin with chocolate, thyme jus and blood orange and French lavender cake, prepared by the Harrods chef.

Master blender, Patrice Pinet, will guide guests through Courvoisier’s heritage, followed by a tasting of the blend Succession J.S., seen as a cherished Courvoisier exspressikon.

The bottle of 1789 Courvoisier & Curlier Cognac will be on sale for £95,000 (US$153,000, €117,000).
