Altia appoints Pekka Tennilä as its new CEO

11 March, 2014

Altia, the Nordic and Baltic wine and spirits company, has announced the appointment of 44-year-old Pekka Tennilä, who has been poached from Carlsberg.

He has been with the Danish brewer since 2001, most recently as CEO, Baltics and CEO of Aldaris brewery, stationed in Latvia. Previously, he has worked at Carlsberg as CEO of Saku brewery in Estonia and been responsible for Sinebrychoff’s exports, with the focus on the worldwide export of Battery and export of cider and beer to nearby markets.

Altia board chairman Matti Tikkakoski said: “Pekka Tennilä is an international beverage industry expert with solid brand experience. His diverse experience in Altia’s strategically important markets and demanding executive positions will provide a good foundation for heading Altia in challenging market conditions.”

Tennilä said: “Altia’s great product portfolio makes it the leading wine and spirit company in the Nordic and Baltic countries. With the acquisition of Larsen and Renault, the company, previously known for its iconic spirits and vodkas, has strengthened its position as a serious Cognac house.

“Another cornerstone of Altia’s success is its fine range of wines, ranging from moderately priced high-quality wines to premium Champagnes. Altia’s roots are in Finland, but it already generates more sales from international markets. The company co-operates with great partners from all over the world and I look forward to working with this network.”
