Tighe is succeeding Dr David Long, who is retiring after 29 years with the BBPA. Dr Long will continue to work alongside Andy for the next few months to ensure a smooth transition.
Tighe joined the association in 1998 and moves from his current post as deputy director. In recent years, he has played a key role in formulating the Association’s taxation policy and annual Budget submission, as well as leading on beer duty operations and supply chain issues. Among many other brewing issues, he also has in environment policy, managing the UK brewing industry’s Climate Change Agreement.
Brigid Simmonds, BBPA Chief Executive, said: “Andy will be a key addition to our senior management team and I am delighted to welcome him to this new role.
“He has a huge knowledge of the workings of the brewing industry, and already has a proven track record.
“He will be a key advocate for the whole sector across the huge range of vital brewing issues that we manage on behalf of members, not least of which is the ongoing debate on tax, where his knowledge and expertise will be crucial.”
Brigid Simmonds also paid tribute to Dr David Long, who is retiring after 29 years of service: “I would also like to express my thanks to David Long. David has been director of Brewing at the BBPA since 1995. He has made a huge contribution to the sector, and will be very much missed by the many who have worked closely with him. We wish him well.”
