Glenmon Distillers, based in Goa, India, is now a 50:50 joint venture partner with South American Demerara Distillers.

The partnership will mean a greater distribution network in Europe, Africa and Asia subcontinents.

Glenmon CEO Dr Mohan Krishna told Indian hospitality website Hospitality Biz India: “India is a big market for rum, especially Kerela and West Bengal. However, there lies scope for marketing aged rum and vintage varieties in the premium segment if you consider the manner in which people have shown affinity for premium wines, vodka, whisky and single malts.”

Glenmon also plans to launch a blended scotch whisky - Lord Roberts - and D' Andre rum in India, by the end 2008. Demerara Distillers produces 26 million litres a year.
