Moët & Chandon to partner World's Best Sommelier comp

22 June, 2009

Champagne Moët & Chandon is to lend its name to the 13th edition of the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI) World’s Best Sommelier Competition.

The event will be held in Chile, next April, and the competition comprises a written (oenology, knowledge of wine production, food and wine pairings) and a practical (blind tastings, decanting and serving wine, Champagne, “live” food and wine pairings, selling wine) test.

The top three candidates will compete in a final before a panel of judges primarily composed of previous winners, and an audience of 500 wine professionals and aficionados.

Each finalist will be pitted against the others in one last practical test: food & wine pairings, serving Champagne, decanting, drawing up and correcting a list of wines and spirits and cigar service.

The winner will join the prestigious circle of the World’s Best Sommeliers.

To crown the victory, the World’s Best Sommelier will receive the Moët Silver Trophy.
