China: Diageo and Shui Jing Fang create ultra premium vodka
Published:  25 June, 2009

China: Diageo and baijiu producer Shui Jing Fang have teamed up to produce Shanghai White - the first ultra premium vodka of its kind.

The drink fuses modern Russian vodka-making techniques with the 600 year-old baijiu distillation heritage of Shui Jing Fang. Shanghai White will be produced in small batches at the Shui Jing Fang distillery in Chengdu, China. Initially, it will only be available in limited quantities, in Hong Kong.

Kenneth Macpherson, Diageo executive managing director Greater China, said: “Shanghai White’s roots are firmly in Asia, a tribute to the vast and centuries-old distilling heritage found in this region. It is this very unique legacy, combined with modern Russian vodka-crafting know-how, that makes the Shanghai White experience one unlike any other.”

The Shanghai White vodka bottle is inspired by the traditional cheong sam or qi pao dress.

Shanghai White will be available in Intercontinental Hotel, Landmark Mandarin, TONIC and W Hotel and the suggested retail price is HK$470 (US$60).
