Denmark/Holland: South African wine is a winner

17 June, 2010

South Africa-based wine company Origin Wine has announced growth in Holland, and Denmark for its brands Stormhoek and Fairhills.

In Holland, Stormhoek launched in two litre bag in box (BIB). Merlot rosé joined established blends Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, and Chardonnay/ Viognier. According to Origin, trends show that BIB is a growing market in Holland and the brand is currently listed with supermarket chain Albert Heijn, which holds over 38% share of the wine market.  In Holland, Fairhills won a ‘Best White Wine’ award for its Sauvignon Blanc 2009 in the Max Havelaar wine awards.

Origin Wine has also achieved listings for fairtrade wine Fairhills in Denmark through the retail group Co-op Denmark. Fairhills Merlot/Pinotage and Chenin/Chardonnay have been listed in a number of the group’s outlets in both 750ml and 3L BIB. As part of Co-op’s commitment to the fairtrade initiative the listing was introduced during the fairtrade promotional period.

Bernard Fontannaz, founder of Origin Wine said: “We are thrilled to see that new concept packaging and important fairtrade products are reaching new people and audiences. It’s great to see our European counterparts embrace new ideas and products in this way. We will be concentrating our attentions on the rest of Europe over the coming months.”
