Amrut launches new single malt

27 September, 2010

Indian distiller Amrut has extended its range of whiskies with the addition of a three cask-matured single malt.

Kadhambam, which will be launched as a limited edition in Europe, Scandinavia and Western Canada, has been matured in ex-Oloroso sherry butts and ex-Bangalore Blue Brandy casks, before undertaking a third period of aging in ex-rum casks.

The Bangalore distillery named the expression after the Tamil word for mixture, a reference to its multi-cask maturation and blend of Amrut single malt whisky and Amrut peated single malt whisky.

Ashok Chokalingam of Amrut Distilleries, said: “We are striving to come up with a completely different whisky with multi-personality characteristics.

The multiple notes of aromas derived from the individual casks make Kadhambam quite unique.”

Production of Kadhambam has been limited to 234 bottles and will be launched in conjunction with Dutch importer Van Wees Holland on October 1 at the Potsill Festival in Amersfoort, Holland.

Maurice van Wees, director of Van Wees Holland, said: “Kadhambam struck me like lightning, the complexity is enormous, this is the most adventurous single malt I have ever tasted.”
