India to host Diageo competition

28 January, 2011

Diageo has announced a host city for the final of its World Class 2011 bartender competition. Delhi, India, will play host to the final of what has been dubbed “the Oscars of the industry”.

World Class is a global bartender competition that is now in its third year. An estimated 10,000 entrants across 39 markets will participate in regional heats and the winners will travel to India for the final.

Judges include Salvatore Calabrese, Dale de Groff and Peter Dorelli and the finalists will be supported and advised by the 2010 winner, Erik Lorincz, head bartender at The Savoy, London.

Andrew Fell, commercial director, Diageo Reserve, said: "India is the perfect choice for the 2011 global final. The Asia Pacific market is currently driving global wealth and India is spearheading growth in the luxury goods industry. We have a fantastic portfolio of luxury brands positioned to meet the demands of the growing cocktail culture evident in the increasing number of great bars found in this vibrant, international city."

Diageo’s Reserve brands include Ketel One vodka, Ciroc vodka, Tanqueray No.Ten gin, Don Julio tequila and Johnnie Walker Gold Label and Blue Label blended scotch whisky.
