Prowein pulls them in: attendance up 5%

01 April, 2011

Prowein organiser Messe Düsseldorf has announced record attendance figures for the show held this week, 27-29 March 2011.

With the number of exhibitors taking stands at Prowein 2011 exceeding 3600 – up by about 200 on the 2010 show – Messe Düsseldorf also reported a healthy increase in trade and media visitors

More than 38,000 visitors from “all major European markets as well as North America and Asia” represented a 5% increase on the 2010 figure.

Messe Düsseldorf officials noted a “significant rise in the number of international visitors”, notably from the UK, Scandinavia, US and Canada, as well as Russia, Czech Republic, the Baltic states, Thailand and Hong Kong.

“The high proportion of visitors with decision-making powers once again set new standards here,” the organiser said. “Over 80% are directly involved in purchasing decisions.” (Source: Prowein 2011 visitor survey)

In Hall 6 on the IVDP (Douro & Port Wine Institute) stand, head of IVDP marketing Maria Cabral agreed that Prowein 2011 had been a success. “The show has a great mix of international visitors,” she told Drinks International. “People who come to Prowein are here to do business, and our companies have done new business. The show is also well organised and access from the city [of Düsseldorf] is very easy.”

Cabral confirmed that IVDP will be exhibiting at Bordeaux Vinexpo in June, but will not this year be in attendance at the London International Wine Fair in May.
