US: DISCUS recruits Campari, appoints new chair

23 March, 2012

Campari America has joined the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS).

Gerry Ruvo, chairman and CEO of Campari America, said: “DISCUS is the global leader in advocating responsible public policy for the distilled spirits industry. Given the significant role spirits manufacturing and sales plays in US commerce and today’s job market, we felt it important to join forces with DISCUS in support of one of America’s most valued, thriving industries.”

Campari’s brands include Skyy vodka and Wild Turkey bourbon. Other member companies include Bacardi, Beam, Diageo, Patron and Suntory. You can see the full list here.

Discus has also bolstered its board with the appointment of Patron Spirits chief operating officer John McDonnell as chairman of the board of directors. McDonnell is to serve a two-year term. He said: “Our industry is facing a number of issues, from tax threats to market access concerns to equal treatment vs. beer and wine, but none of these can be effectively addressed without the full cooperation from all of us who work in this business. One of my primary goals is to help forge closer ties between suppliers, distributors, and retailers."
