BNIC to auction 26 rare cognacs

13 August, 2012

Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac (BNIC) is to auction 26 rare cognacs at the upcoming charity auction, La Part des Anges.

To be held at the 17th century Château Chesnel on the banks of the Charente river, near Cognac on September 20, the annual auction will see many of the region’s largest houses donate rare bottles of cognac for the seventh consecutive year.

Over the past six years La Part des Anges has raised €300,000 for good causes. This year, as last, proceeds will go to the charity Order of Malta.

This year cognac's generic body has set its sights on surpassing the €15,000 highest bid achieved last year.

Founded some 900 years ago, Order of Malta is involved in running hospices and humanitarian aid projects all over the world to combat “need, exclusion and sickness”.

The BNIC said: “La Part des Anges has become one of France’s biggest and most prestigious charity auctions.

“Since 2005, the sale has become a date for every cognac lover’s diary, not only as an opportunity to acquire exceptional and unique bottles, donated by cognac houses, but to share in an event that brings together all players in cognac production – cellar masters, growers, distillers, coopers and glass makers.

“Twenty six bottles, all chosen for their exceptional quality and rarity will make up the sale. Many are unique or in stunning presentation carafes, specially created for the auction."
