BNIC auctions rare cognacs for £108,500

01 October, 2012

The BNIC’s seventh annual La Part Des Anges charity auction has raised a record €136,800/£108,500 from the sale of fine and rare cognacs.

The auction, held in support of the Order of Malta charity at Château Chesnel in Cherves-Richemont near Cognac, saw a Martell lot achieve €21,000/£16,650, a Hennessy bottle €14,000/£11,100 and a Prince Hubert de Polignac €10,500/£8,325.

Twenty six bottles of cognac plus a bespoke sculpture went under the hammer at the event, which was attended by 650 people.

The Order of Malta, founded some 900 years ago, is involved in running hospices and humanitarian aid projects all over the world to combat “need, exclusion and sickness”.

The Cognac Awards were also presented on the day. This year Ann Tuennerman, founder of Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans, won Cognac Personality of the Year award, and US spirits writer David Wondrich was awarded Cognac Writer of the Year.

Previous winners have been Salvatore Calabrese for Cognac Personality of the Year Award, Nicholas Faith for Lifetime Achievement Award and Drinks International contributor Patience Gould for Cognac Writer of the Year.
