Diageo launches World Class TV show

17 October, 2012

Diageo has made a TV programme about its World Class bartender competition.

The programme centres around the world final which took place in July in Rio de Janeiro. Presented by George Lamb, the one hour show follows the competition from 39 original world finalists, to 16, to 10, to the announcement of the winner.

In the UK, the programme is to air on Saturday October 20 at 10pm on The Food Network. Local market versions are being distributed by Precious Media and are scheduled to air in more than 100 countries including The Food Network, RTL, 5, Acht and Travel Channel. It was produced by Shine North.

The UK's 2012 winner Andy Mil said: "I would storngly advise all up and coming bartenders to attend the UK heats. It's an amazing competition to be a part of, giving the opportunity to work with and learn from the best in the business."

In the Diageo camp, Dominic Redfearn, global media and content director, led the project and he said he hopes to develop the idea further.

In the UK, it is one of the first hour-long programmes dedicated entirely to drink, rather than food and drink. It has the feel of a Master Chef final, with the addition of Copacabana beach.
