Jancis Robinson MW has been awarded the Commendador do Ordem do Mérito Empresarial – Classe do Mérito Agricola - for services to Portuguese Wine at a private event hosted by the Portuguese ambassador at his residence in London.

Robinson was presented with her medal by the Portuguese ambassador, Dr Joao da Vallera, and commended for championing Portuguese wines throughout her career.

Robinson said: “All my wine writing life I have felt very fond of Portuguese wines and have championed them. I think it’s high time we got rid of any idea that Portuguese wine has to be a niche product or an inexpensive product, the evidence is there that Portugal is producing some wonderful wines.”

Wines of Portugal supported the event and marketing director, Nuno Vale, was present to witness Robinson's commendation. He said Robinson "fully deserves this honour". He added: "She is a staunch advocator of our country and over the years has done much to educate and enthuse people about our wines. I would like to pass on our sincere thanks for what she has achieved.”
