William Grant distills on Christmas Day

08 January, 2013

William Grant & Sons marked its 125th anniversary on Christmas Day last year by distilling a spirit that will be released in decades to come as a Christmas-themed Glenfiddich.

On Christmas Day 1887 William Grant, the founder of Glenfiddich, distilled the company’s first batch of spirit.

The 2012 ‘Christmas spirit’ will be aged for at least 20 years before Glenfiddich malt master Brian Kinsman decides if it is ready to be released as a limited edition.

Kinsman said: “Christmas Day 2012 marks a very special birthday for Glenfiddich, so we were inspired to create something unique.

“Casking this Christmas Day whisky means that in twenty years time, if we are lucky and the cask matures as it should, we will have created a limited edition infused with the pioneering spirit of our founding father, William Grant.”
