Pernod Ricard to buy Cognac company

13 February, 2013

Pernod Ricard has eased concerns over Cognac supply with the purchase of 100% of the shares of the winemaker, distiller and wholesaler Le Maine au Bois SAS.

The France-headquartered group announced its subsidiary Martell & Co will complete the acquisition by June 30 2013 but did not disclose the value of the deal.

Le Maine au Bois SAS is located in Saint-Eugene, in the Petite Champagne district in AOC Cognac.

According to the Pernod Ricard, the Cognac company has “high-quality eaux-de-vie of all ages and state-of-the-art industrial facilities, notably the distillery Le Maine au Bois”.

A statement from the group read: “This acquisition reflects Pernod Ricard's ambitions regarding long term development of its Martell range, world leader of the XO cognac category.”
