Nyetimber starts exporting

26 April, 2013

Nyetimber, probably England’s most well known sparkling wine producer, has announced its first export partnership with Tokyo-based distributor Enoteca.

Japan will be Nyetimber’s inaugural export market and Enoteca will be the exclusive distributor of Nyetimber in Japan from June 2013.

The announcement was made on Wednesday (April 24) at the Queen’s Birthday Party in Tokyo hosted by the British Ambassador to Japan, Tim Hitchins, at the ambassador’s residence, where Nyetimber Classic Cuvee 2008 was served to a crowd of approximately 1,000 people.

Nyetimber’s marketing & communications manager, Christian Holthausen, said: “It was an honour to be chosen to help celebrate the Queen’s birthday party in Tokyo, especially as it was our grand debut in Japan.

“Japan is an extremely discerning wine market and we are looking forward to a very success future, said Holthausen.

“Lots of Japanese wine lovers will soon discover amazing, high-quality sparkling wine from England,” said a spokesperson for Enoteca.

Nyetimber was served at the British ambassador’s residence in Paris during Paris Fashion Week in February. In June 2012, Nyetimber was served by the Queen and the Royal Party on the Spirit of Chartwell barge and at the Diamond Jubilee lunch held at Westminster Hall.

Nyetimber was also served to President Obama at 10 Downing Street on his first official visit to the UK in 2009.

In the May issue, Drinks International will be reporting on English wines.
