English Wine Week

04 April, 2014

English Wine Producers (EWP) has launched new branding for this year’s English Wine Week which takes place from May 24 to June 1.

English Wine Week is a national campaign by the EWP, designed to raise awareness and availability of English wine across the country in both the off-trade (multiple grocers and specialists, independent retailers) and the on-trade (hotels, pubs, bars, restaurants) and consequently among consumers.

The new logo, by Amphora Design is meant to evoke the many aspects of English Wine Week. It is designed to be versatile and is accompanied by a range of point of sale materials aimed at different sectors of the trade. There are leaflets, posters and bottle neck tags for the off-trade, which can be customised by individual retailers, as well as window stickers, bunting and banners to attract customers and encourage them to taste English wines in-store. For the on-trade, menu cards and leaflets are also available. Most of the materials are free of charge and available from EWP.

EWP marketing director Julia Trustram Eve, said: “We want to encourage people who have never tried English wine to just give it a go and we’re confident that the new branding will help to raise awareness.”

The annual English Wine Producers’ Trade and Press tasting takes place on Wednesday May 7 at the Institute of Civil Engineers, 1 Great George Street. The doors will be opening at 9.30am, with an exclusive breakfast reception for selected trade and press (by invitation only). The theme is ‘Who is investing in the English wine industry?’ Several movers and shakers will give their views on why they have chosen to invest or work in the English wine.

The tasting itself will see producers from around the country, new wines, latest vintages and some on show for the very first time. Many of the industry’s top winemakers and other representatives will be on hand to talk about their wines. The central tasting table will feature some 100 wines, from sparkling through to dessert wines. Smaller producers from all around the regions will also be on show.
