Paterson celebrates 45 years in whisky

25 September, 2015

The new International Spirits Challenge whisky chairman, Richard Paterson of Whyte & Mackay, is celebrating 45 years in the whisky industry this year.

Paterson’s carreer began when he followed his grandfather and father into the industry, joining A. Gillies & Company Whisky Blenders & Brokers where he worked as a production assistant.

He then joined Whyte & Mackay, becoming their Master Distiller at the age of just 26. Over the last 45 years he has been responsible for whiskies such as The Dalmore Trinitas, the Mackinlay’s Shackleton blend and Whyte & Mackay Blended Scotch.

Bryan Donaghey CEO of Whyte & Mackay said: “Richard’s contribution to Whyte & Mackay and indeed the whisky industry as a whole over the last 45 years has been phenomenal.

“His commitment and passion never ceases to amaze me and I can confidently say, on behalf of the team at Whyte & Mackay, the industry and of course all of the whisky aficionados out there , that we all look forward to working with him for many years to come.”
