Pernod Ricard renews US Havana Club trademark

26 February, 2016

Pernod Ricard has confirmed that the US Patent & Trademark Office has renewed its Havana Club trademark registration in the US until January 27, 2026.

The renewal of the US trademark registration means the dispute over ownership of the Havana Club brand in the US can be returned to the US courts.

Ian Fitzsimons, general counsel of Pernod Ricard, said: “We are confident that Cubaexport, the Cuban entity that owns the US trademark registration for Havana Club rum, will prevail in defending its registration in the pending litigation.”

Bacardi has said it will “pursue all the necessary legal and other actions regarding its rights and ownership of Havana Club rum”.
