Gold on 27 launches at Dubai's Sail hotel

12 April, 2016

Gold on 27 launched at the Dubai-based "7-star hotel" Burj Al Arab Jumeirah on Thursday, with a throng of local and international guests in attendance.

Looking out at the Arabian Gulf and Dubai’s skyline from the 27th and highest floor of the famous ‘Sail hotel’, Gold on 27 is headed up by British bar general manager Paul Bradley, formerly of the Reunion Bar at The Grosvenor Hotel in London and a veteran of 32 bar openings.

Jumeirah Group hopes its latest bar opening can be a destination venue in Dubai.

Anthony McHale, general manager, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, said: “This venue has been 18 months in the making from concept to completion and represents an incomparable addition to Dubai’s nightlife. We have an excellent team on board, dedicated to giving guests a remarkable experience.

“The service levels and hospitality at Gold On 27 will be second to none. Paul and his team’s mixology skills and creativity with ingredients are ahead of the times and their ability to combine unique flavours are unmatchable.”

Bradley told Drinks International - in Dubai - that the cocktails would be “accessible but experimental”, that the menu drew inspiration from the “history and traditions of Dubai” and that cocktails following the theme would change every six months.

One such drink, Below the Ground, plays on the tradition of water refrigeration in the region, which until electricity arrived in the 1960s, involved lowering a wet cloth into a well. The cocktail is “conditioned” in stone jugs – drawing on the tradition - and combines armagnac, porter reduction, mixed berries, acacia honey and lime.

While Rub’ Al Khali uses ingredients found in the nearby desert – camel milk-washed bourbon, Kholas dates, and prunes, combined with Dubonnet Rouge, pomegranat juice, Galliano, L’Autenico and Fernet Branca.

Aged single malts and the gamut of big-brand blended whiskies are also available, along with selections of high-end Cognacs and a smattering of gin, rum, champagne and craft beers.

The décor follows the Burj Al Arab's luxury approach, with a huge molten-gold effect hanging from the ceiling, in what is a plush, Art Deco hotel bar venue.

Gold on 27 is part of a series of refurbishments planned at the hotel that opened more than 15 years ago.

Dubai residents and visitors will be able to make bookings for Gold On 27 through an app, available on both Android and IOS. The booking is then activated upon arrival at the entrance to the hotel, allowing access to the property and the bar on the 27th floor.
