Wimbledon serves up Bolney Pinot Gris

22 June, 2016

English wine producer Bolney Wine Estate has been selected to be on the menu at the Wimbledon tennis championships for a second year running.

Last year the Sussex wine producer’s Pinot Gris 2014 was the first English Wine ever to be served at Wimbledon.

The Bolney Pinot Gris was recommended and sold to Wimbledon via Bibendum, the UK's leading on trade drinks supplier.

Bibendum's buying director Andrew Shaw said: “It was no surprise that the Bolney Estate’s Pinot Gris has been selected for a second year at Wimbledon. The popularity of English wine continues to thrive. The Bolney Estate Pinot Gris is of the highest quality and yet again, will perfectly represent ‘brand England’ on the world’s stage.”

The wine retails through bolneywineestate.com for £18.99.

The 2015 Pinot Gris is described as “dry, fresh and aromatic. The rose and pear-scented nose leads to faintly honeyed fruit flavours with traces of white blossom on the silky finish. It is the perfect summer wine and with its English heritage makes it the perfect ‘match’ for Wimbledon”.

Bolney’s master wine maker and managing director Sam Linter said: “We are delighted that our Pinot Gris has been selected to be served in the Wimbledon boxes for a second year. It proved popular last year with spectators, with many of them selecting our English wine to play a part in their very English day out at the tennis.

“For our very own Bolney Pinot Gris to appear on the menu at such an respected English institution is a great accolade and shows how English wine is truly on the map.”
