Dead Rabbit named winner of World's 50 Best Bars 2016

06 October, 2016

Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grogg from New York has taken the title of World’s Best Bar 2016 at the annual World’s 50 Best Bars Awards in London.

The Drinks International-run awards, which took place at Christ Church Spitafields tonight (October 6th), saw a new winner, after a four-year winning streak by London bar, Artesian, came to an end.

Dead Rabbit, run by Northern Irish pair Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry, finally took the number one spot after finishing second on the list two years in a row.

The bar also received the award for Best Bar in North America.

Upon winning the award, McGarry said: "For myself and Sean, we feel an overriding sense of completion. When we were in New York during the very dark days, when we were flat broke and there was absolutely progress, only one thing kept us going. We knew we were about to open something special - something that would be our version of The World's Best Bar.

"We are deeply proud that the bartending world shares our belief in The Dead Rabbit and even more proud of the entire team that helped us build it. We look forward to proving we're the best bar in the world and further improving and developing our world-class standards."

American Bar at the Savoy hotel, was named the second best bar in the world and Best Bar in Europe at the Awards, while Dandelyan – the list’s Highest Climber - and Connaught Bar, also from London, made up the top four, just ahead of Attaboy of New York in 5th.

In sixth, and the highest new entry to the list, was The Gibson from London, while Employees Only of New York was awarded the Legend of the List, having had the best record of any bar over the eight years of the World’s 50 Best Bars.

Best Bar in Asia went to Manhattan from Singapore, Best Bar in Latin America was won by Licoreria Limantour from Mexico City, while the Best Bar in Australasia was named as The Baxter Inn from Sydney.

In the Africa & Middle East region, the new entry from Beirut, Central Station, took the honours.

The 2016 list saw 11 new entries and four re-entries.
