27 March, 2017

Chairman Jonathan Adnams

British brewer Adnams has announced a record-breaking 2016 having sold more than 100,000 barrels for the first time in its 140-year history.

Adnams generated sales of £70.3m and a £3.9m operating profit for the 12 months to 31 December 2016.

Jonathan Adnams, chairman of Adnams, said: “We have confidence in the underlying performance of the business and the growth that we have been seeing.”

“Brewery sales volumes rose by 9% and distillery volumes by 66%. A record level for both parts of the business.

“Whilst the depreciation of Sterling depressed profits, underlying trading was good with our shops trading well. We continue to innovate and invest in the long-term future of our company.”

Adnams is a family business based at Southwold on the Suffolk coast of England, which produces cask and bottled beers, and spirits. The company has an estate of pubs and hotels and a chain of Adnams Stores.

The Adnams Report & Accounts highlights include:

· Sales of £70.3m (2015: £65.7m) +7.0%
