The Burgundy Wine Board (BIVB) has announced the winners of the 23rd Annual Chablis Wine Awards, identifying the finest wines of the 2006 and 2007 vintages.
The awards brought together a jury of 75 wine tasters from France and Europe, including oenologists, sommeliers, restaurant owners, technicians, wine tasters, amateurs and independent wine growers.
“This event is an important opportunity to honor the best of Chablis wines, to promote the winegrowers and the region,” said Arnaud Valour, spokesperson for Chablis wines.
2007 vintages in the Petit Chablis, Chablis and Chablis Premier Cru appellations were entered, while 2006 harvests were presented for the Chablis Grand Cru appellation.
The 2006 Chablis Grand Cru proved to be a particularly good vintage offering rounded wines with silky features. According to Arnaud Valour, the jurors’ work was cut out for them in deciding upon a winner in this appellation.
“For the Petit Chablis, Chablis and Chablis Premier Cru, the 2007 harvest was a more traditional, classical crop. Wines were bright and vivacious, with strong mineral notes.”
Twenty wine tasting groups were responsible for selecting the top three wines from a batch of approximately fifteen entries. These top wines were then tasted a second time by a super-jury that ultimately selected the winners.
