US recognises cachaça

The US is to officially recognise cachaça as a spirit from Brazil. The sugar cane spirit is currently labelled Brazilian rum in the US.

An especially crafted blend of rare malt and grain scotch whiskies, distilled in and maturing since 1952, is being bottled today to celebrate the Queen’s accession to the British throne 60 ago today.

The European Union and the US Distilled Spirits Council (DISCUS) have welcomed a decision that finds the Philippines to be in breach of trade rules when it comes to tax on imported spirits.

The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has ruled that discriminatory excise tax on spirits in the Philippines is a violation of WTO rules.
