Rémy in talks with EPI over champagne sale

02 March, 2011

The Rémy Cointreau Group has announced that it has entered into “exclusive negotiations with EPI” to sell its champagne division.

The proposed deal, which would include champagne brands Piper-Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck, follows reports in November that Rémy's champagne division was less profitable than other sides of its business.

EPI (Societe Europeenne de Participations Industrielles), a family owned group run by Christopher Descours, owns a number of luxury French brands including JM Weston, Bonpoint, Alain Figaret, François Pinet, Michel Perry and Château La Verrerie -  the group’s only wine asset.

In a statement Rémy Cointreau said: “In the event of a favourable outcome to the negotiations, the conclusion of a sale agreement would only occur after consultation with the concerned employees representative bodies and authorisation from the board of directors of Rémy Cointreau.

“Completion of the sale will remain subject to the authorisation of relevant competition authorities.”
