South Africa’s flagship wine producer unveils new wine

Vergelegen, one of South Africa’s best wine producers, has unveiled a new wine, DNA.

André van Rensburg, one of South Africa’s finest who courts controversy with his no-nonsense, shoot-from-the hip approach, was in London yesterday (June 13) for the unveiling of DNA, a blend of of 60% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon with an abv of 14% (£22, circa €27, US$34, distributed in the UK by PLB).

A lighter wine than Vergelegen’s flagship Cabernets, it nevertheless had that trademark freshness of Vergelegen wines, due to good acidity with an elegance and refinement you do not always find in South Africa’s often heavy duty reds.
