Drinks International to celebrate 40th birthday

09 July, 2012

Drinks International will celebrate its 40th birthday with the great and the good of the UK drinks industry on Thursday in London.

Established in 1972, Drinks International is the only magazine devoted exclusively to the global spirits, wine and beer market.

Drinks International publishes The World’s 50 Best Bars survey, The Millionaires’ Club, Brands by Value and The DI Dozen, and hosts globally contested competitions The International Spirits Challenge, The Cocktail Challenge, The Travel Retail Awards, The Pre-mixed Drinks Challenge and The Wine Tourism Awards.

The magazine has changed hands several times since its inception, with media companies Reed Business Publishing (Reed Business Information), William Reed and current owners Agile Media all having been at the helm.

Christian Davis is the editor of the magazine, while former editors include Pamela Massingham, Patience Gould, and Felicity Murray.

Davis, who has been with Drinks International for five years said: “In an industry that boasts 30-year-old whiskies and 50-year-old rums and deliberates whether the 1982 vintage in Bordeaux was superior to 2000, Drinks International stands foursquare as relevant now as it was back in the year when David Bowie introduced his alter ego, Ziggy Stardust, to us."
