Donald Trump wine whitewashed in California

28 April, 2017

The vineyard of US president Donald Trump was beaten 7-0 in a ‘Judgement of Our Time’ wine tasting event against a variety of Californian wine estates.

The blind tasting event took place at the Vineyard Hotel, US and the wines were paired according to style and price point.

Wine director at The Vineyard Cellars and The Vineyard Hotel, James Hocking, said: “Although we are known for being Californian specialists, tasting Trump wines was a first for The Vineyard team and was certainly eye-opening.

“Trumps Cru Fortified Chardonnay is somewhat unusually produced; rather than traditional fermentation, the chardonnay juice is blended with grape brandy, and then aged in bourbon barrels.  The winery describes it as 'truly all-American'."

The Trump Winery is the largest vineyard in Virginia and is managed by Eric Trump, Donald Trump’s son. Trump Wines are not yet available in Europe.

Hocking added: “Other pairings were more straightforward but the outcome was nevertheless overwhelmingly in favour of California, with judges voting for the Californian wine in each pair, with an overall result of 7-0.”
