Courvoisier launches sherry cask finish cognac

27 September, 2017

Leading cognac brand, Courvoisier has unveiled a sherry cask finish cognac, which is a global travel retail exclusive.

With a recommended retail price of €50/£40, the Courvoisier Sherry Cask Finish (40% abv) is the first bottling in its Masters Cask Collection.

At a special briefing in London, master blender Patrice Pinet, said the eaux-de-vie is aged as a normal cognac in French oak casks for approximately two and a half years. It is then transferred to Spanish Pedro Ximénez casks for between four to six months.

Pinet admitted hat he had experimented with other casks, including oloroso casks and port casks from Harvey’s but he found the PX casks worked best for this new expression.

His tasting notes comprised: sweet, honeyed, fruity, summer flowers, toasted almonds with a richness from the PX casks.
