Grupo Codorníu extends Raimat line

31 August, 2011

Grupo Codorníu has extended its Raimat range of wines with the addition of Castell de Raimat Xarel.lo-Chardonnay and Castell de Raimat Chardonnay Barrica.

Available now for £9.99, the 2010-produced, 14% abv wines are said to be “sustainable and fruit-forward” in style.

According to Grupo Codorníu, Castell de Raimat Xarel.lo-Chardonnay  is an “innovative marriage of the traditional Catalan grape Xarel.lo combined with Raimat’s signature international varietal Chardonnay”.

Castell de Raimat Chardonnay Barrica, said the Spanish wine group, “represents Raimat’s fresh approach to oaked Chardonnay - 60% is barrel-fermented in French and US oak and left on the lees for six months, with regular bâttonage to increase its complexity, texture and flavour”.

Mark Nairn, Raimat’s head winemaker, added: “D.O Costers del Segre is ideally suited to producing outstanding white wines with great fruit expression, elegance and length.

“These new wines demonstrate this perfectly, as does our 2011 New Wave Spanish Wine Award for the Castell de Raimat Xarel.lo Chardonnay.”

Grupo Codorníu has also announced that its single varietal Viñas range will be rebranded from Raimat to Castell de Raimat.

The name change, which will be rolled out to the entire Raimat portfolio in 2012, is designed to reflect the brand’s “heritage and traditional Spanish roots”.
